Aadhaar is a 12 digit unique-identity number issued to all Indian residents based on their bio metric and demographic data. The data is collected by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), a statutory authority established on 12 July 2016 by the Government of India. Benefits of Aadhaar Card:
Aadhaar based direct benefit transfer (LPG Subsidy): Aadhaar card can be used to get direct transfer of LPG subsidy to your bank account. You need to visit the area LPG distributor and link your Aadhaar number with LPG account.
Jan Dhan Yojana: The Guinness record holder scheme Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accepts Aadhaar number as one of the documents to open a savings account. Under this scheme, you get RuPay card, zero balance savings account, life and accident insurance and many more benefits!
Voter card linking: Aadhaar card number is linked to your voter id number effective March 2015. This was initiated to eliminate fake voter ids. However, it is noted that currently the Election Commission is awaiting Supreme Court’s nod to resume linking of Aadhaar with voter id.
Passport in 10 days: Ever thought of getting passport in 10 days? Aadhaar card would make it possible! Yes, under this scheme, police verification would be done at a later date unlike the previous practice. Also, Aadhaar number is now made mandatory to get the passport!
Monthly Pension: All the pensioners from select states will now have to register their Aadhaar card number to their respective department in order to receive monthly pension. This move was initiated to mitigate fraudulent claims for as a few beneficiaries requesting pension were found to be fake.
Provident Fund: Provident Fund money will be released to the account holder only if you link your Aadhaar Number with employee provident fund organization (EPFO).
Digital Locker: Government of India has launched digital locker (DigiLocker) scheme for everyone who can store their personal data in Government’s server. 1 GB space is provided to each account holder and submitting Aadhaar card a proof is a must.
